Chirimba school, Nsanje

Chirimba School demonstrates Agricane’s commitment to community-led development by providing safe, permanent learning facilities that expand educational opportunities for rural children and help create the foundations for long-term community prosperity.

Constructed in 2019 in Nsanje District, Chirimba Primary School was developed in response to priorities identified by local leaders and community development committees. Prior to construction, many pupils attended lessons under a tree due to a lack of adequate classroom facilities. Today, the school serves 1,123 learners and provides a safer, more effective learning environment, including two dedicated classrooms accommodating 81 and 52 pupils respectively, helping improve educational outcomes for current and future generations.

Many schools in the communities where Agricane operates have outgrown their facilities, forcing children to learn outdoors regardless of weather conditions. At the same time, increasingly severe rainfall has damaged existing infrastructure and limited opportunities for expansion. In response, Agricane works with community leaders to identify priority projects and provide the engineering expertise, funding, and implementation support needed to deliver lasting solutions. The construction of Chirimba School has provided modern classroom facilities that improve learning conditions, particularly for older pupils preparing for examinations, while strengthening educational capacity within one of Malawi’s most underserved rural communities.
