Community-owned organisations delivering lasting impact across the Lower Shire Valley

Kaombe Community Development Trust

Established in 2009 by Agricane Malawi and Illovo Sugar Malawi, the Kaombe Community Development Trust leases 335 hectares of sugarcane and reinvests the income into community-led projects, including clean water, roads, schools, healthcare, and vocational training.

Phata Outgrowers Cooperative

Formed in 2011, the Phata Cane Growers cooperative has grown to more than 700 members who, with Agricane’s irrigation expertise and matched funding from global partners, transformed former cotton and sorghum land into over 618 ha of profitable sugarcane .

Kasinthula Cane Growers

Kasinthula Cane Growers Ltd, in Malawi’s drought-prone Shire Valley, partnered with Agricane to help communities convert unproductive land into over 1,200 ha of sugarcane production, supplying a local mill and significantly increasing incomes.
