Sangowa Farm and Innovation Hub

Sangowa Farm serves as Agricane’s center for agricultural innovation, combining commercial production, applied research, biological technologies, and farmer training to develop the crops, systems, and skills needed to unlock the potential of irrigated agriculture in Malawi’s Lower Shire Valley.

Located in the Lower Shire Valley, Sangowa Farm serves as a center for agricultural innovation and practical learning, bringing together Agricane’s commercial farming operations, the Innovation Hub, and SRC Biologicals. The farm provides a platform for evaluating new crops, testing agricultural technologies, demonstrating biological production systems, and developing commercially viable farming models tailored to low-altitude irrigated conditions.

Sangowa Farm supports Agricane’s efforts to diversify agricultural production and create new opportunities for farmers and investors. Activities include evaluating high-value crops such as mangoes and bananas, testing improved planting material, assessing biological technologies through SRC Biologicals, and demonstrating groundbreaking irrigation and mechanized farming systems. Through applied research, field demonstrations, and farmer training, the farm is helping producers prepare to benefit from opportunities created by the Shire Valley Transformation Project and from growing domestic and export markets. To date, the Innovation Hub has supported more than 1,000 farmers to improve productivity while strengthening resilience to climate and land degradation challenges.
