The Innovation Hub provides a platform for testing and validating commercial crops, multiplying seed, evaluating agricultural inputs, and developing high-value nursery crops suited to the Lower Shire Valley’s low-altitude irrigated conditions.
Through field trials, demonstrations, and technology transfer, the hub generates the knowledge and production systems needed to support large-scale commercial agriculture, helping prepare farmers and investors for opportunities arising from the Shire Valley Transformation Project and growing domestic and export markets.

From trials to markets
Building on trials already conducted at the Agricane-led Phata Sugarcane Cooperative, we work with commercial partners, farmer cooperatives, and leading research institutions, including the Soybean and Peanut Innovation Labs (SIL & PIL), IITA, ICRISAT, and CIAT, to evaluate crop performance, yield potential, and market demand, ensuring only proven crops and technologies are promoted to farmers, investors, and buyers.
Sustainable Productivity
As climate pressures grow, our Innovation Hub combines efficient water management, crop improvement, and field research to boost productivity while reducing environmental impacts. Through SRC Biologicals, we also promote biological technologies that improve soil health, strengthen crop resilience, and reduce reliance on synthetic inputs.
